  12. NOTICE: These files do not constitute the entire product and are to be used
  13. only in conjunction with authorized purchased copies of 3270 Workstation
  14. for DOS 2.0.  The product is Copyrighted under law and is not shareware.
  15.  
  16. WSDUP.ZIP is the central portion of the upgrade from v2.00 to v2.02.  
  17. The other portions have been broken down into several PTFs in order to
  18. facilitate downloading from NetWire.  
  19. They can be found in:

  21.       - MOD5.ZIP for support of additional Model 5 adapters
  22.       - FTRANS.ZIP for the File Transfer upgrade

  39. V2.02 provides many additional features for sites using the Workstation
  40. together with NetWare for SAA:
  41.  
  42.  
  43. 1.  INCREASE AVAILABLE CONVENTIONAL MEMORY FOR DOS APPLICATIONS
  44. The ability to increase available conventional memory for applications by
  45. placing part of the workstation control program (WSLAN) into upper memory.
  46.  
  47. The amount of memory saved will vary widely depending on your system's
  48. configuration and the applications running on your system.
  49.  
  50. This feature is available without additional hardware on all 386 machines
  51. and above.  A 286 machine typically requires an added memory card with
  52. memory management that is compatible with the LIM Expanded Memory
  53. Specification (EMS) 4.0.
  54.  
  55. See MEMORY.DOC for configurations recommended in order to make available
  56. the maximum amount of available conventional memory and information on
  57. disabling the upper memory load feature.
  58.  
  59. DISABLING THE UPPER MEMORY LOAD FEATURE
  60. You can load WSLAN into conventional memory (0 to 640 KB), without having
  61. to change CONFIG.SYS, by disabling the Upper Memory Load feature.
  62.       Add /UN to the WSLAN command, for example:
  63.              WSLAN config_filename /UN
  64.  
  65.  
  66. 2.  PASSWORD ENCRYPTION
  67. IMPORTANT: Only a NetWare for SAA v1.2 communications server can read
  68. encrypted passwords.  If the workstation will only be using NetWare for SAA
  69. v1.1, DO NOT configure the workstation for password encryption.
  70.  
  71. However, if your network contains both NetWare for SAA V1.1 and V1.2 a user
  72. on a workstation configured for password encryption might attempt to log in
  73. to a NetWare for SAA v1.1 communications server.  NetWare provides a way to
  74. prevent a lag in response time when a workstation is connecting to a
  75. NetWare v1.1 communications server.
  76.  
  77. NOTE: Encrypting passwords requires 37 KB of conventional memory in the
  78. workstation and lengthens login time.  It can take up to 15 seconds for a
  79. server to accept encrypted passwords.
  80.  
  81. For instructions regarding the configuration of a Workstation for Password
  82. Encryption and a method of preventing a lag in response time when a
  83. workstation using Encryption is connecting to a NetWare v1.1 communications
  84. server see ENCRYPT.DOC.

  86. 3.  SPEED PRINTING
  87. The WSLAN command has a new parameter: PRINT/DOS BALANCE.  This give you
  88. the ability to speed redirectable printing by balancing print and DOS
  89. resources by adjusting the rate at which the print stream coming from the
  90. Host is forwarded to the print queue on the file server.
  91.  
  92. IMPORTANT: Increasing throughput for Host printing will result in fewer CPU
  93. resources being devoted to DOS functions.  Each site must determine the
  94. appropriate balance between DOS functions and redirectable (or Host)
  95. printing.
  96.  
  97. The command syntax for PRINT/DOS BALANCE is:
  98.       WSLAN config_filename /Bnn
  99.              where       
  100.       config_filename
  101. is the name of the configuration file that you used when your workstation
  102. was configured.
  103.  
  104. "/B"  is the BALANCE parameter.
  105. "nn"  is a two-digit number.
  106.  
  107. If your printing or your DOS session is unacceptably slow, you can increase
  108. the CPU resources devoted to printing by specifying a value between 1 and
  109. 99 in the PRINT/DOS BALANCE parameter.
  110.  
  111. The default value of this parameter is 20.
  112.  
  113. If you set the parameter value to 0 or a number larger than 99, you will
  114. receive the following error message:
  115.  
  116.       Invalid switch parameter in command line
  117.  
  118. 4.  EBCDIC Code Page 500 & ASCII Code Page 850 Support
  119. Available in the language support ZIP for several countries (see above).

  121.  
  122. 5.  SUPPRESS UNDESIRED FORM FEEDS 
  123. You can now allow the Host to control form feeds by setting the Maximum
  124. Print Line parameter to 0.  
  125. For page printers, this feature instructs the workstation to not issue form
  126. feeds at the bottom of a page except in response to a Form Feed received
  127. from the Host.  
  128. For line printers, the feature is equivalent to setting the Maximum Print
  129. Line parameter to 1, which instructs the workstation to issue a single line
  130. feed.
  131.  
  132. Because of this change, depending on your configuration, there can be rare
  133. situations in which extra form feeds are generated (because both the host
  134. and WSLAN provide form feeds).
  135. If this should occur, it may be necessary to add "1" to the "Number of
  136. Lines per Page" in the WSLAN configuration.  (Refer to page 3-15 of the
  137. Configuration Guide.)
  138.

  143. 6.  IBM 122-key KEYBOARD SUPPORT
  144. You can specify the IBM 122-key keyboard (for PS/2).  BOARD.DOC contains
  145. instructions. 
  146. A. You can configure the Workstation for use of the IBM 122 key keyboard by
  147. selecting it as the keyboard option using WSCONFIG.
  148.   
  149.              OR          
  150.  
  151. B. When loading WSLAN you can override the configured keyboard type in
  152. order to assign the IBM 122 keyboard to the workstation.  At the DOS
  153. Command Line enter the following WSLAN command at the command line:
  154.              WSLAN config_filename /KI
  155.  
  156.  
  157. 7.  SWAP RESET BETWEEN LEFT <CTRL> and RIGHT <ALT> KEYS
  158. You can change the key that is normally mapped to the Reset function (Right
  159. ALT) on an Enhanced (101-key) keyboard to the left <Ctrl> key.  
  160.  
  161. The use of Right ALT is the same as prior support.  Use of Left Ctrl
  162. conforms to IBM standards.
  163.  
  164. If mapped as the reset key, left <Ctrl> key serves as a dual key:          
  165.  
  166.             
  167.       - As a Reset Key when pressed and released alone .
  168.       - As a <Ctrl> key when you pressed another> key.  
  169.

  171. make this change see KEY.DOC.

  174. 8.  CONFIGURABLE lu NAMES
  175. Permits specification of dedicated LU names or LU pool names in the
  176. Workstation configuration.    
  177. A complete explanation of these categories is in ADDWS.TXT in NOVLIB
  178. Library 9.

  186. When you select Dedicated... in the Select LU Category menu and press
  187. <Return>, the Specify Dedicated LU Name window is presented on the screen.
  188.  
  189. The Dedicated LU Name field accepts no more than 8 characters.
  190.  
  191. The upper limit for the LU pool name remains 47 characters.  There is no LU
  192. name for either the PUBLIC or ANY category.
  193.  
  194.  
  195. 9.  HLLAPI support for "Easel" and "Mozart".
  196. High Level Language Application Program Interface (HLLAPI) has been changed
  197. to be compatible with the third party front-ends "Easel" and "Mozart".
  198. For this support download HLLAPI.ZIP.

  201. 10.  The ability to use "wild cards" in WSCONFIG. 
  202. This means that you can use an asterisk (*) in the User Name field to have
  203. the Workstation use the NetWare login name, thereby allowing users to log
  204. in only once, rather than having to log in to the network and then
  205. again on the communications server.
  206.  
  207. However, you will be prompted for a password if:
  208.       - Logged in as Supervisor, or  
  209.       - Logged on to a server other than the one NetWare for SAA is loaded
  210.       on, for example, when using Runtime v3.11 communications server.

  213. 11.  CONSISTENT ENTRY

  221. 12. ADDITIONAL MODEL 5 DISPLAY DRIVERS
  222. Drivers to support these additional display adapter cards are included in
  223. MOD5.ZIP:

  226.     VGA cards using a Western Digital chip set (such as
  227.        Paradise VGA and TopVGA)

  236. 14. Some tips on using the NetWare 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS v2.02.
  237. A. MOUSE
  238. - The manual states that if a mouse is to be used in the host session, it
  239. must be Microsoft compatible.  
  240. - Specifically it should be compatible with Microsoft Mouse Release 7.0 and
  241. above.  
  242. - The manual also recommends the use of a mouse port or a bus mouse.  
  243. - A mouse connected to the serial port may also be used.
  244.  
  245. B. HEAP SIZE
  246. - The "Heap Size: Base" option allows you to specify the size of the heap
  247. space that serves as the amount of working storage allocated for running
  248. WSLAN.  The documentation refers to a 2-digit field.  
  249. - In reality, the software has been modified to allow for 3 digits; however
  250. the maximum value must be equal to or less than 120.  
  251.  
  252. C. WSEXIT
  253. When using WSEXIT or the <Alt><End> key sequence to unload WSLAN, be sure
  254. to unload any DOS applications loaded after WSLAN first.
  255.  
  256. D. DISPLAY ADAPTER MEMORY TO SAVE FOR THE DOS SESSION
  257. One of the "DOS Session Options" is entitled "Display Adapter Memory to
  258. Save for the DOS Session:"   
  259. Be aware that the colors of a DOS application's screen may be changed upon
  260. hot-keying back to it from the host session.
  261.

  263. 15. OUTSTANDING PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS
  264. A. TRANSFER.EXE fails with "RENAME error 3" message under certain instances
  265. when attempting to export a file.
  266. > Workaround:  Do not specify a subdirectory for the destination file.  
  267. If you must specify a subdirectory for the destination file, do not specify
  268. a file name extension.
  269.  
  270. B. Timeouts when page printing to a COM port.
  271. > Workaround:  Use LPT port for page printing.  
  272. If you need to use a COM port, select line printing.
  273.  
  274. C. "Free Error Alignment" on Workstations and Gateway when using Gateway
  275. Status Utility broadcast feature in a stress environment.
  276. > Workaround:  Increase Heap on the Gateway.
  277.  
  278. Any future "fixes" for 3270 LAN Workstation 2.02 will be placed in a file
  279. called WSDPTF.ZIP in NOVLIB Library 9.   As of 5/27/92 WSDPTF.ZIP does not
  280. yet exist.

  283. 16.  AS/400 Keyboard Files
  284. A. The AS/400 does not support the 3270 PRINT function.  Therefore, the
  285. 3270 PRINT key will not function when the NetWare 3270 LAN Workstation is
  286. used with an IBM AS/400.  To print a host screen in 5250, you must use the
  287. function key that represents the PRINT function.  This function key will be
  288. F4, if you have chosen to remap the function keys using the AS/400 keyboard
  289. remapping procedure (see Appendix E of the 3270 LAN Workstation for DOS
  290. Configuration Guide) or PA1/F4, if you have not remapped the function keys.
  291.  
  292. B. NUMLOCK affects all the keys on the numberpad.  
  293. For example:
  294.       - When using the 101-key enhanced keyboard with NUMLOCK set to ON,
  295.      the NEWLINE key will not function.  
  296.       - When using the 83/84-key standard keyboard, ERROR RESET will be
  297.       disabled if NUMLOCK is set ON.  In all cases, you must hot-key to DOS
  298.       and turn NUMLOCK to OFF to use the numberpad keys.
  299. C. When SHIFT LOCK is ON, the function keys will act as uppercase function
  300. keys (F13 - F24).
  301.
